Closing the Color gap from Lab to Production

26 October 2026 – For consumer brands, packaging colour plays an important role in brand recognition, product differentiation and consumer perception. Maintaining consistent colour across packaging formats, materials and production runs is therefore essential. Yet, as manufacturers work with different substrates and production processes, achieving colour consistency becomes more challenging, with implications for quality control, production efficiency and meeting brand owners’ specifications.

These challenges are particularly relevant as packaging producers respond to growing requirements for recycled content while continuing to meet the visual and quality expectations of brand owners and end-users.

In the latest Technology Insider feature on Plaspak Asia INSIGHTS, we speak with Matt Adby of X-Rite Pantone about the practical challenges of colour measurement and control, and how connected measurement technology can help bridge the gap between laboratory and production environments.

The discussion examines the importance of sample conditioning, measurement consistency and instrument performance, as well as a less obvious factor that can significantly influence colour results. It also explores the implications for manufacturers incorporating recycled PET into their packaging.
